Settling into our new home in Aberdeen

We arrived on a drizzly mid summer afternoon so cold you could see your breath. First impression is the contrast of the lushness of nature vs the hard spartan impact of the Scottish architecture. Our flat at Robert Gordon University is one example.

The building we are living in is set in a green park like setting right beside the river. The interior though is painted a harsh bright blue enamel broken only by bright red fire extinguishers. We thought that this was perhaps because they are budget university accommodations but a trip into town suggests that while the colour and layout of our new home is very unusual inside and out, no frills functional architecture is typical of Aberdeen.

The flat itself is in a tower and very roomy – literally! There are five individual bedrooms each equipped with internet access, ensuite, desk, bed etc. Then there are two toilets for the flat plus a kitchen and dining table. We have the place to ourselves which is very nice. The place is designed so each bedroom has a window to the outside and the dining room is completely interior with a ‘porthole’ to the kitchen.
