The Giant's Causeway

On the northern coast, Northern Ireland’s most famous scenic attraction is the Giant’s Causeway. It is truly spectacular and like most things over here comes complete with rich mythology, this time based around the legendary monster Finn MacCool. He created the causeway over to Scotland to fight Scotland’s monster and as he ran back home he ripped up part of it so he couldn’t be followed. There is a lot more to the story of course but the point is that these basalt columns (actually created from a cooling volcano) go out to sea and then are seen again just out from the Scottish Islands around Skye. Some are huge and up on the land, others buried under the sea.
